 ROMANS CHAPTER SIX

Verse by verse analysis

Jinu Ninan

  1. Romans 6:1 - Since I am dead to sin once and for all, I cannot continue to habitually practice sin. (1 John 3:6, 3:9, 1 Peter 2:24, John 8:34)
  2. Romans 6:2 - Since I am dead to sin,  I cannot live in sin anymore (Colossians 3:3, 1 John 3:6, 3:9, 1 Peter 2:24)
  3. Romans 6:3- I am immersed into Christ. My old sinful nature has been nailed to the cross, died, buried with Christ and removed from me; therefore I am freed from sin permanently. (Colossians 2:12, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:27, Galatians 2:20, Galatians 5:1)
  4. Romans  6:4 - I have been raised up as a new creation in Christ, with a new life; therefore I can practice righteousness and walk habitually in the newness of life ; just as Jesus walked  (Colossians 3:1, Ephesians 2:1, 1 John 2:6, 3:3, Galatians 5:22, 2 Corinthians 5:17, 1 Peter 2:24)
  5. Romans 6:5- Since I have become one with Him, permanently united in the likeness of His death, I will also certainly be one with Him and share fully the likeness of His resurrection. (Ephesians 2:1, 10, Colossians 3:1, Romans 8:11)
  6. Romans 6:6 - I know my old sinful self is nailed to the cross with Jesus and removed from me,  (Romans 8:9,Colossians 2:11,12, Galatians 2:20)
  7. Romans 6:6 - I know my  body of sin/ sinful nature is destroyed completely  ( Colossians 2:11, Galatians 2:20, 2 Corinthians 5:17)
  8. Romans 6:6- I know therefore I am no longer a slave to sin  ( Romans 8:2, Galatians 4:1, John 8:32)
  9. Romans 6:7 -I have died with Christ and I have been freed from the power of sin forever (Galatians 2:21, Hebrews 2:15, Romans 8:2)
  10. Romans 6:8 - Since I have died with Him, it is absolutely certain that I will live with Him in the newness of life ( Colossians 2:12, Ephesians 2:1,10 )
  11. Romans 6:9 Just as death had no power over the resurrected Jesus Christ , sin has no power over me who is resurrected with Jesus Christ  (Romans 8: 2, Corinthians 16:1, Ephesians 2:1, Colossians 3:1, Revelation 1:9)
  12. Romans 6:10  Jesus Christ died to sin once and for all thereby ending its power once and for all (Acts: 2:24, Hebrews 2:14, Revelation 1:9)
  13. Romans 6:10 - He resurrected from death and lives forever to glorify God in unbroken fellowship with God the Father (John 1:1, Colossians 3:1, Hebrews 1:3, Psalms 16:8)
  14. Romans 6: 11- Exactly the same way; I Believe wholeheartedly the divine that I am dead to sin and count myself dead to sin. My relation to sin and its power over me is permanently broken (because just as Jesus died to sin, I too have died to sin with Him and my sinful nature is removed from me and destroyed. Therefore, I can count on this divine fact with absolute certainty)  (2 Corinthians 5:14,Colossians 2:11,Colossians 3:2 )
  15. Romans 6: 11- Also I count myself alive to God and I can live a life to glorify God in unbroken fellowship with Him just as Jesus is ( because I have been raised up with Christ in a new life and seated with Him)  (Ephesians 2:6, Colossians 3:1, Hebrews 1:3)
  16. Romans 6:12 - Therefore ; I won’t allow sin to reign again in my body anymore to obey its lusts and passions ( I don’t have to since I am freed from sin’s power ) ( Colossians 3:5, Galatians 5: 24)
  17. Romans 6:13 - I won’t offer my  body parts anymore as instruments to sin ( I don’t have to because sin is no longer my master) ( Colossians 3:5,6, 1 cor 6:15)
  18. Romans 6:13 - Instead; I offer my body parts as instruments to righteousness, completely yielded to God for His holy purpose and thus glorify God through my body ( I can by His Grace, because I am dead to sin and freed from sin’s power and alive to God and free to do His will ) (Romans 6:12:1, 1 Corinthians 6:20)
  19. Romans 6:14 -  All these are absolutely  possible because; ( 1- Sin is no longer my master (Sin cannot rule over me anymore) (Galatians 5:1, Romans 8:2, John 8:32) 2-   I am not under the law (Not under the obligation to achieve God’s righteousness by my works) (Romans 7:5, Galatians 5:19, Colossians 2:14, 15) 3-  I am under His grace (I am under God’s imputed righteousness and His power strengthens to me to do His will). (Galatians 5:22, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 4:16, 2 Corinthians 12:9)
  20.  Romans 6:15 - Since we are not under the law (obligation to achieve God’s righteousness by our works), but under God’s grace; (under imputed righteousness of God), can we conclude that we are free to sin?  Certainly not!!; (Galatians 5:13, Jude 1:2)
  21. Romans 6:16 I know that I am either a slave to sin which leads to death or slave to God for obedience which leads to righteousness. There is no neutral position.  ( 1 Peter 2:24, John 8:34-36)
  22. Romans 6:17 - Since I have heard and submitted to the standard of teaching, which is instructed to me (the divine truth which sets men free); I am freed from sin’s power forever. ( Romans 8:2, Colossians 2:7, John 8:32, Galatians 5:1)
  23. Romans 6:18  I became a slave to righteousness; so I can offer all my body parts to righteousness leading to holiness  ( Romans 12:1, 1 Corinthians 6:5, 1 Peter 2:24)
  24. Romans 6:19 When I was a slave to sin, I presented my bodily members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, leading to further lawlessness. In the same way, since I am freed from sin and became a willing slave to God, I can offer my members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.; (Romans 12:1, 1 Thessalonians 4:3)
  25. Romans 6:20 When I was a slave to sin, I was free in regard to righteousness. Since I was controlled by my sinful nature, I had no desire or power to do God’s will. ( Ephesians 2:2, Romans 5:6, 2 Timothy 3:5)
  26. Romans 6:21 when I was a slave to sin; the benefits I derived from my root sinful nature were shameful, sinful acts. The fruits from indwelling root sin are sinful actions and the outcome was death. (Romans 7:5, James 1:15, Ephesians 2:2, Matthew 7:18)
  27. Romans 6:22 - In the cross; Jesus took my root sinful nature which was the source of sinful fruits and I have been set free from sin and have become a willing slave to God. Therefore I can derive the benefit, which is my sanctification, being made holy and set apart for God’s purpose, and the outcome of this is eternal life. (2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, 2 Peter 1:3-4)
  28. Romans 6:23 If I am a slave to sin, I am paid its wages, which I deserve. I cannot be a slave to sin and escape without receiving its wages. And the wages of sin is death              (Genesis 2:17, 1 Corinthians 15:21, James 1:15, Romans 5:17)
  29. Romans 6:23 Jesus took not only the wages of my sin which is death on the cross, He took my root sinful nature on the cross; destroyed it and removed from me. Thus He set me free from the captivity of sin. He not only dealt with its fruits (our sinful actions); He also destroyed and remove its very root (our Adam sinful nature) to set us free.                ( 2 Corinthians 5:21, Colossians 2:12, Galatians 2:20)
  30. Romans 6:23 - In exchange He gave His eternal life to all those who repent and believe. By faith, I become a slave to God, and I received God’s gift which is a free and undeserved act of Grace. (John 3:16 , John 1:5, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13, 2 Peter 1:3-4)
  31. Romans 6:23 -The free gift of God, His remarkable, overwhelming, undeserved gift of grace is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. ( John 3:16 , John 10:10, ,1 John 5:11- 13)

GLORY TO GOD! ONCE I WAS A SLAVE TO SIN, BUT I HAVE BEEN SET FREED FROM SIN’S POWER AND HAVE BECOME A WILLING SLAVE TO GOD.

ROMANS 6:17
